Floor jack and properly rated jack stands Wheel chocks Second jack or transmission jack to support the differential Complete metric socket and wrench set Torque wrench Breaker bar Extensions and universal joint Trim or pry tool that will not damage the bushing Flashlight or work light Degreaser, brushes, and shop towels Paint marker Safety glasses and gloves
Confirm whether the kit fits the front mounts, rear mount, or both Verify the factory bushings are healthy enough to accept inserts Photograph the mounts, bolt direction, and nearby brackets Read the complete fitting instructions before raising the car Treat rusty fasteners with penetrating oil Plan a safe support point for the differential—never use a thin cover or cooling fin Confirm the car is level and stable on stands Make sure another vehicle or backup plan is available
Support the differential before loosening any mount hardware Remove or loosen only the hardware required by the insert instructions Do not let the differential hang from the driveshaft, axles, or remaining mount Clean dirt and debris from the factory bushing voids Apply only the supplied or manufacturer-approved grease Match each insert to the correct mount and orientation Press every insert fully into the factory bushing voids Make sure no wiring, heat shield, or hose is trapped Raise the differential into position without forcing alignment Start every fastener by hand Torque all hardware to the correct vehicle-specific specification Mark completed fasteners with a paint pen
Reinstall every brace, shield, bracket, and exhaust hanger removed for access Confirm the differential and nearby components have proper clearance Inspect the differential mounts from more than one angle Check for leaks around the differential Make sure no tools or loose hardware remain under the car Start with a short, gentle test drive Listen during acceleration, deceleration, and low-speed shifts
Check for new clunks, whining, vibration, or harshness Reinspect the mounts after the first drive Recheck accessible hardware as directed by the manufacturer Confirm the inserts remain fully seated Expect a firmer response—but investigate excessive NVH Remember: inserts reduce movement; they do not repair a failed factory bushing
IMBOURJ NOTE The insert may be small. The differential it supports isn’t. Get the jack placement right before removing the bolt. One important thing. This is a preparation checklist—not a repair manual. Follow the fitting instructions for your exact insert kit and the procedures and torque specifications for your vehicle. If the original rubber is torn or separated, replace the failed bushing instead of using an insert to hide it.
